    Differential diagnosis of fever of unknown origin :

    Fever of unknown origin: is characterized by the temperature equal or higher than 38.3◦c (101F) , on several occasions , for 3 weeks with failure to reach a diagnosis within one week of inpatient investigation.
    Differential diagnosis:
    -Infection : bacterial ( abscesses , tuberculosis , endocarditis , meningitis…) , viral ( HIV/AIDS , herpes viruses…) , fungi( candida albicans , malassezia furfur…) , parasites( toxoplasmosis , malaria , amoeba…).
    -Neoplasm : lymphomas ( Hodgkin , non-Hodgkin lymphomas ) , leukemias ( acute leukemias ) , renal cell carcinoma , carcinomatosis , paraneoplasia…
    -Collagen vascular , autoimmune disease : systemic lupus erythematosus , juvenule rheumatoid arthritis , polyarteritis nodosa ( PAN )…
    -Granulomatous disease : sarcoidosis , inflammatory bowel disease , granulomatous hepatitis …
    - Drug fever : alpha-methyldopa , antibiotics , aspirin…
    -Inherited disease : familial mediterranean fever , lamellar icthyosis , nephrogenic diabetes insipidus …
    -Endocrine : hyperthyroidism , subacute thyroiditis , adrenal insufficiency…
    - Miscellaneous : dehydration , milk allergy , Behcet`s syndrome…

    Tuberculosis (TB) is usually considered in the FUO differential diagnoses; however, several factors may prevent a prompt diagnosis of TB. In TB, dissemination, which usually occurs in immunocompromised patients, may initially manifest as constitutional symptoms that lack localizing signs.
