For you American students, is the dollar to pound conversion really bad?

yes 1GBP= 1.75 to 1.80 USD so 1 USD to 1GBP is about 0.55 cents and many things cost the same in the UK as they do in the US or almost as much.
A "Big Mac Meal" in US is 4 dollars, in the UK is 4 GBP. Rent is 250 to 700 GBP month, depending on what you want.

Believe it or not, that exchange rate is actually better than it was about 5 years ago; but you have to remember that most things in GB are proportionately more expensive anyway, regardless of the exchange rate.
