Do I need to just stick to studying BRS and notes for Histo. and Embryo. and not worry about the reading the book except for making refrence to pictures?
Thanks,

Depends on whether you are preparing for the class or trying to prepare for the boards as you go. You dont need to read every word in texts, but there is a lot of info that will be on the USMLE that you won't get from the BRS and instructors notes.

I'm a first semester student. I am just checking to see what previous students thought.

The BRS is the Board Review Series. It is a really good comprehensive book to prepare for the USMLE step 1 and I have been told it is a good study aid while in med. school

If you still have Dr. P like we did last semester, stick to his PPT's early on as much as you can, then around exam time - switch gears to his practice questions and the relevant BRS questions.

Yep...Study his power points even though they are confusing at times. I also read the BRS and studied BRS questions, and the correlated material in the texts. The text last year was not the one he recommended, so his notes didn't correlate. You should be straight this semester though b/c they updated the textbook list. In summary, how I recommend to study:
1. Notes that you made from things he stressed in class
2. Power Point slides (and sample Q's if he provides them)
3. BRS
4. Text
