Hi Everyone:
I just found out that I cleared my USMLE Step 3 today. I'm totally psyched! If I could give some humble advise to future test takers, here goes. USMLE likes to ask fundamental concepts in medicine. Some of these concepts you can get from review books, some you can't. For instance, does everyone know that the most sensitive and specific test to get for iron deficiency anemia is serum ferritin? Therefore, reading big topics, like MI, pneumonia, and Atrial fibrillation from a source like Harrsion's can be very high yield for the MCQs. Also, for the MCQs, other MCQs, especially from Usmleworld, are essential. It's good to read the answers and reasoning behind practice MCQs. For cases, I got:1. Acute cholecystitis2. Pneumonia3. Turner's Syndrome4. Acute Prostatitis5. Mental Status Change 2nd to DKA6. CHF7. CHF presenting as SOB after hip replacement surgery8. Jittery Hypoglycemic baby of Diabetic mother9. Ovarian Cancer For CCS cases, it is VERY important to read the initial history and physcial very carefully. For instance, in my patient with DKA, I woul almost have missed the diagnosis ifI did'nt see the elevated blood sugar on BMP. And in my patient with acute prostatitis, I almost thought it was acute cystitis until I went back to H + P and read about the tender prostate on rectal exam. Hope this helps!
