Please read sticky on clearance, also apply as a student you will need an acceptance letter from the school. You will need to send proof of how you will support yourself in England. If you have a spouse and or child they will also apply as student's dependants. go to the visa site for the UK

drquentin,
The turnaround time for you to receive you entry clearance is anywhere from 7-10 working business days (Mon-Fri). I received mines on a Friday and I sent it out Monday of that same week, so it's pretty fast.

Click on E-fastrack and apply for your entry clearance online! It's much faster this way... and make sure you pay for the visa online too! You will need to send documents such as the following (for a single student):

Acceptance Letter from SC
Medachievers Letter of disbursements (or any other letter, bank statement, etc. They want to see that you have >$12,000 for the entire year at least).
Immigration Letter from SC
Completed application which you will need to print once you submit online
2 Passport Photos
And your travel arrangments (e-ticket most commonly)
Passport in original
If NON - US CITIZEN, send you immigration status from the US (e.g. Residence Card, etc. in original)

If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact me. As for a student with dependants, do as Bill said.... They have to apply for "student dependant" and they too have to send all of the above with applies to them individually.

Apply as early as possible. The time to process a visa varies.
