View Full Version : Questions on What Materials I Should Bring to Saba

I'm accepted for the September semester and I want to buy things I might need during my time on the island as it relates to academic work. In other words, any advice on study aids, review books, etc?

And are the textbooks necessary or can I rely on lectures/slides? And is there any tools I should buy for anatomy, etc.? Something you'd advise that the school doesn't say? I know about the dissection kit - don't know if I need a particular brand or anything, and I know about the two sets of scrubs. But I'm wondering if there are any other items? I ask because I'm likely not going to leave the island during breaks and it would be far more convenient for me to buy them in advance.

Thanks so much for any input!

You don't need a dissection kit at all or any textbooks despite what anybody tells you. Two sets of scrubs is fine and bring lots of gloves.

Read my thread 'Saba May 2015 class - a little bit of insight...' it will answer a lot of your questions with relevant information as I am a current student.

Yeah, my friend who is just finishing up from MUA told me the same thing you just said. Wasn't sure if Saba would've been similar in that regard. But he also told me that I should get a stethoscope. Is that something I would definitely need to purchase?

I just read that post. Good work! So based on what you said in your post, I'm taking it that they break up the semester into two classes the first half and two classes the second half? Or did I misread that? And would you know if that applies every semester?

Hate to bother you with another question, but given that you're currently in first semester, how would you rate the lectures? Do profs mainly read from the slides? And would you say that a solid strategy for the blocks would be to know the slides more than anything else (e.g., as opposed to textbooks, etc.)?

Thanks so much for being helpful. I also want to follow your advice and find the FB group for the September semester.
