The tilt-table test is a simple and inexpensive method to help identify the causes of fainting. The test involves placing the patient lying flat on a table with a foot-support, then tilting the table upward. Straps are put around his body to hold him in place. The table may start off in a horizontal position and be tilted by degrees to a completely vertical (head-up) position. The patient's blood pressure and pulse are monitored throughout the test.

Doctors use tilt-table tests to find out why people feel faint or lightheaded or actually completely pass out.
