Any idea of what scores AUA students have been getting on the Step 2 CK Comp? School just sent out an email saying the required comp score has been raised from 70 to 76 :(. Is that even doable?

AUA students don't fare well on step 2 generally because of poor clinical education in comparison to Ross, sgu etc. We see it even in transfer students who transfer from ross to aua clinicals, score high on step 2 ck. Part of it has to do with basic science too - from my transfer colleagues basic science is very thorough and very tough at ross, sgu.

part of it could be that as patience99 mentioned AUA is the most shadiest school around. Who knows whether our comp shelf grades were inflated by the school (I don't see how students at AUA score higher at kaplan comp than AUC which has a passing bar of 47). And also who knows whether step 1 questions could be leaked out at AUA and certain students have them.

How have you been finding the quality of teaching you've been receiving during clinicals? Talked to a friend of mine who spoke to a higher up at AUA and there is very strong likelihood that shelf score requirements will be going up from 56 to 70 and will also be 20% of your clinical grade instead of just P/F. Do you think getting 70's on the shelfs is an achievable goal for AUA students? Thanks.

I agree that the quality of education was lacking in basic sciences. I never used recalls and passed Step 1 on my first attempt. All my friends who used recalls on the island could not pass step 1.

What are recalls?

Also, does the school prepare you to pass their comp? How is the process set up? I'm trying to determine if AUA is a good choice of school to transfer to from one of the big 4..

Recalls are test answers assimilated (Don't ask me how) and passed around by students.

It only occurs in Caribbean. More so in the lower tiered schools like AUA, MUA etc.

Why do students do this? - Well students entering these low tier schools have GPAs < 3.0 and no MCAT. In other words, they are just desperate premeds who don't even belong in medical school but get in. Instead of taking the opportunity to self assess themselves, they use these recalls to pass exams, even comp shelf.

It even occurs in clinicals.

I am guessing since AUA's step 2 ck comp shelf scores have been raised to filter some more students out, that there is high incidence that recalls have been used for step 1 as well.

Hey Rajdev just wanted to ask where you are in clinicals...are you done clinicals and writing comp shelf for step 2?
