Generally speaking, health literacy is the degree to which a person can receive, process and understand the basic health data and the services that are to be provided to patients in order to make relevant health decisions. The quality of health literacy depends on such factors as laymen' and professionals' communication skills and knowledge on a certain topic, culture, understanding the basic healthcare and public health systems' demands and being oriented in a particular situation or context.
