Hi all,
I am preparing for the entrance exam for Charles (June) but I'm stuck as to what to revise for this?

Study the syllabus which is on the LF1 (Charles University First Faculty) website.

Are there any sites that have the sample questions?

The LF1 website has a practice exam. When I took the exam in 2011 it was extremely different to the practice exam on the website. However, it is still worth doing it as you never know what could happen.

I have searched the forum but nothing has jumped out and answered my question.

I'm surprised you didn't find any information on the forums. This question has been asked many times before.

hey honzah,

how are we supposed to study the syllables if most of the titles there are not found in the A level? Any advise? I bought the cambridge A level books and it barely have anything of the topics in it.

Most of my preparation came from using SAT preparation books. The SAT physics book (Princeton review) was very useful.

However, for the chemistry and biology sections the SAT books aren't of too much use. They are probably quite similar to A-levels in which case they do not match the syllabus for the 1st faculty.

Additionally, for chemistry I used certain chapters from "Organic Chemistry I - As a Second Language. Translating the Basic Concepts, 2nd edition". This did help me out with some questions.

I took a look at the book online and it looked so advanced. Isn't this supposed to be for chemistry students or something? I will buy the sat preparatory books physics and ill use it to prepare. As for the biology do u recommend any book? The A level books are horrible. And any other recommendation for chemistry because this book also have a lot missing.

As I said, I only used certain chapters from that book which I matched to the syllabus from the 1st faculty, obviously the organic chemistry topics. The book is not so complicated, after all it is called "translating the basic concepts".

As for the biology do u recommend any book?

In this order I used the SAT subject review books for biology 1. Princeton review 2. Barron's 3. Kaplan
However, as mentioned above these books weren't of so much use for the 1st faculty exam.

And any other recommendation for chemistry because this book also have a lot missing.

For chemistry I used the SAT subject review books in this order: 1. Mc-graw Hill 2. Princeton review 3. Barron's 4. Kaplan
Similarly, in my opinion these books were of limited use for the 1st faculty exam.

In summary my preparation consisted of only SAT subject review books and the organic chemistry book mentioned above. This was enough too get me through the 1st faculty exam. The reason I used the SAT review books was that I was aiming to get into the 2nd faculty and only applied for entry at the 1st faculty to keep my options open.

Perhaps you could try using the "advanced placement" books. As I believe they are at a higher level.

Hello,

I'm also preparing for the Charles University 1st Faculty and I don't know either where to exactly study from. However, thank you for ur advice above. Yet, I just wanted to ask you that do u have by chance any practice exams or anything other than the above books that u practiced with for the exam preparation? I was looking for any past exams or sort of similar things that could give me an idea of what type of questions to expect on the exam day. Thanks for ur help.

Hello,

Yup, almost everyone has this problem. The easiest exam to prepare for is the entrance exam at the 2nd faculty because you can do the SAT test instead of faculty's internal entrance exam.

do u have by chance any practice exams or anything other than the above books that u practiced with for the exam preparation?
Nope, all the books I used for prep I should have listed in this thread. Please remember it has been almost 6 years since I have done the entrance exam and I can see from this thread that I made the last post here 3 years ago. My memory was better then than it is now, however, I do remember using three distinct brands and upon a quick browse of this thread I can that they were Barron/ Princeton Review and Kaplan.[/QUOTE]

The only past exams / sample exam questions that I used were those that can be found on the faculty's website.
