View Full Version : Cardiac Cycle Help

I have to draw a diagram of the cardiac cycle for someone with mitral valve prolapse. Can someone please give me a hand with this. I know that in mitral valve prolapse the mitral valve closes properly, but upon contraction of the ventricles it flips open into the atria.

Would this drop the volume and the pressure in the ventricles, while increasing the atrial pressure? How would I show this properly on a cardiac cycle diagram.

Thanks for any help!

Mitral Valve Prolapse - when the left ventricle contracts, one or both flaps of the mitral valve flop or bulge back (prolapse) into the left atrium. This can prevent the valve from forming a tight seal.

As a result, blood may leak from the ventricle back into the atrium. The backflow of blood becomes Mitral Regurgitation.

I have difficulty understanding heart muscle mechanics.. page 187 188 189 190 of kaplan LN 2010 edition..by which I point at the cardiac and vascular function curves.
Please could anyone explain or help me with another source to understand this better . I already tried BRS however in vain.
thanks for your help!
