Hi everyone , I'm a dentistry Student and I'm taking physiology this term . I have 2 questions that I need to ask and I need your help .

1. What happens when there's an increase of external Potassium in cardiac muscles and what is the mechanism of it ?

2. Why is atrial depolarization in the ECG represented by a round wave , while it appears to be like a streight line for ventricles ??

I'd be glad if u help :)

1. in cardiac muscle , if ECF potassium is incereased, the excitability is reduced and the heart stops in diastole.
2. atrial depolarisation is a slow process compared to that of ventricle, so the wave is round and ventricular depolarisation is like straight line
hope this will help u.
