Hi there, I have just registered. I'm Tibor from Szeged, age 22. If you have any questions do not hesitate to contact me, I'm glad to help. I'm about to start studying in the university as well, and I also have a flat for rent.

funding for a foreign school is a longshot, no banks will pour money to such investments
you're best bet would be to work or ask parents for money

Hi Melvoi,

Before I had my own flat I've been looking for rentals. Based on your demands, the prices scale from 30.000 - 60.000 HUF/month (158 USD - 315 USD) for small apartements, suitable for a single person or a couple. If you have some friends you might consider renting a larger flat and share the expenses of the rent. Most bills come on monthly basis, my personal expereinces are the following (For a couple in a small apartement):

water & drainage - ~9000 HUF (48 USD) This bill comes every second month.
cost of electricity - ~7000 HUF (36 USD)
common cost - 6750 HUF (35 USD) Different in each house.
cost of gas usage - ~1000 - ~25000HUF (48 USD) Could reach 131 USD during wintertime.
Internet + cable - ~ 7750 HUF (40 USD) 15 mbit via cable & 30 channels on TV.

Here's some math:
In worst case, you rent an apartement alone, it is wintertime and you rent somewhat expensive apartement, your basic expenses are 605 USD in a month.

I hope this has been helpful, if you ever need anything just ask.

Hi Tibor,

Thank you for ur reply it has been most helpful! I am looking to leave alone, I do not know anyone from szeged, but if I can rent with someone to bring the expenses down, I would gladly do it. When would you recmomend I arrive in Szeged to get my accomodation taking care of, and registering for classes, and opening a bank account and getting my permanent resident card. And any other miscellaneous thing d I am missing. Also how does d place look, I have never bin, I am African and I am just worried a little of the culture shock, and I have bin reading a lot of post by people in the forum, and they have mostly bin -ive.
Thanks again dude!

Melvoi,

Sorry for the late answer, I had to repost my reply.

I did some research. I couldn't find anything about the 'permanent resident card' you mentioned.

I have some info about healthcare instead. It is your decision to use the state healthcare system or to see a private doctor when needed. Private doctors work at higher prices paid right after the treatment. To use the state healthcare students from abroad should pay either 23.400 HUF for six months (129 USD) or 140.400 HUF (678 USD) at once.

To get an accomodation you should start looking now, because the city is swarmed with universtiy students from September and they are competitive residency seekers :)

Registering for classes takes time in the end of August or the beginning of September depending on your studies.

Opening a bank account takes one or two weeks from inquiry to receiving your card.

Don't be afraid of too much culture shock, people are diverse here, many students come from abroad. If you have something specific you are afraid of just tell me maybe I can help you.

I can't post a link full of photoes, I have to reach post count of 20 yet.

Hi Tibor,

I'm looking to start my application process for the Hungarian program as well. I grew up in the US but I was born in Hungary. Do you happen to know what I have to do in order to properly apply, having not gone to high school in Hungary?

Thanks :)
