View Full Version : question regarding dental assistants

Hi, A few months ago, my dentist's assistant took an impression of my tooth for a permanent crown and when the new crown returned, it was too big and the dentist had to retake it himself. When that crown came back, the face was changed resembling a steeple with a verticle white line down the center and I refused it. Before a new impression was done, the dentist filed down the tooth to the point of exposing the nerve and causing me a lot of pain, then his new assistant took an impression of it. One 1/2 months later, the pain came back and the dentist told me I needed a root canal. I went for a second opinion who confirmed it and said the tooth had been abused. I had a partial root canal done and two retreatments because no one new where the pain was coming from, so he referred me to two other specialists who confirmed that the crown was the problem because it was done incorrectly and was touching the bone and that I had to remove it and get a new crown.

I recently found out it is illegal for a dentist assistant to take an impression for a "permanent" crown. My question is who can legally take dental impressions? Thank you.
