Hi AM.Md

Regarding to the "special" case of Puerto Rico that authority was formerly given to the TEM (Tribunal Examinador de Médicos), due to the "médicos fatulos" scandal; the TEM lost all its credibility, authority and prestige. Since august 2008 a new law took effect, creating a new entity (Junta de Licenciamiento y Disciplina Médica). That new law gave all the responsability, in matters of medical licensing process to the Department of Health (Departamento de Salud). So the Departamento de Salud have the responsability to supervise the Junta de Licenciamiento y Disiciplina Médica. The new entity also should be responsible for the administritation of the licesing tests, a substitute for the "Revalida". The new tests must be prepared by a different entity, (the Revalida was prepared by the TEM). The Junta de Licenciamiento y Disciplina Médica states that aspiring physicians (from schools out of US,doesn't include PR) have to show evidence of been qualified by the Foreing Medical Schools Educational Commission for Foreign MedicalGraduates (ECFMG) or any other institution that could be later selected.

Hope that you have a better understanding of this complicated matter.
Best Regards

Don't worry. Be happy.

Sorry, but I didn't find the way to reply you earlier. Art-tech Med regarding to your question, (as far as I know) the answer is YES in order to be certified you have to approve USLME steps 1 & 2. I don't know about new legislation, (newer than august 2008). As hipocratesmd said, if anyone have new information let us know about it.
