Ok so I need to take step 3 like by the end of January, I am already studying for it. My diploma will be dated December 30th, so i can't apply till then. I want to have an idea of the time line from anyone who has taken the test. So if I have my diploma, December 30th, when is the earliest that I can take the test, when is the earliest that I will have my results.

I need an H1b visa real bad, y'all can't even understand. A lot of programs are telling me they need a passing grade by February, before ROL is placed.

Help please?

Why the need to take Step 3, if you don't mind me asking?

my post may not have been so clear. But I need to get an H1b visa, J1 will not do. Most programs I have interviewed at require that you have step 3 results available by Mid February to be in consideration for H1b

Thanks for the reply, is it getting harder for non American citizens to get residencies in the US with the whole visa issue? I ask because I'm Canadian.

I think that another issue you have to concern yourself with is that you also need to be ECFMG certified before you can apply for step 3. I believe you need your diploma to get that ECFMG certificate. Do you already have that done???

How long does it take to get that ECFMG certificate once you have received your diploma?

it took me 6 weeks to get ECFMG certified around this time due to the holidays. however, it took 2 weeks to get my step 3 score. Therefore, even though the process takes a while, you may have all 3 usmle's done before spring. Hope this helps

Did you by chance take Step 3 before starting residency, as per requirements for the H1B?
Thanks for the info.
