how early did you guys apply? if i applied now, would i still have a chance at jan 09?

It would be best if you call the Admissions office and check this. Who knows, they might still have some spots open.

I think its never too late to apply to AUA, the worst thing that would happen would be that they would accept your for May 09.. and even that is not bad.

The ONLY stduents who should be making late applications are prospective transfer students. Everyone else whould begin the process as soon as possible if for no other reason than it takes time to get the paperwork to the NY office, time to wait for an interview and time to wait for a decision from the Admissions Committee. Jan 2009 is still very doable. If you are accepted, are you ready to move to Antigua in 13 weeks?

For me the interview was easy. Just be honest and if you have ok to good gpa you should be ok. Remember if you get in just work very hard to get off the island. its funny how we fight to get in and then we have to fight to get out.:)
good luck.

I have not heard from housing but i called financial aid and they told me that we should be getting the packet in the mail by the end of oct or early nov.

I just hope that the economy dosent make it harder for us to get loans.

thanks for the reply josjua1. A.H. from the FA office said we would get info 1st or 2nd week of Nov. She said in the meantime to get your credit score and maybe look for co-signers.

Has anyone started buying their textbooks yet and know which ones are absolute musts?

Thanks

Those from Houston and Dallas, there is a seminar coming up, just an FYI. I believe Dallas' is this Thursday, and Houston is next Thurs. I will definately be going to get more insight. Plan on flying in Dec. 30th, if the housing is ready. Isn't there a "Meet & Greet" for incoming students? If not we should make one!

Feel free to stop by an Info Seminar! I'll be at the Houston one (depending on how my other travels work out) on the 22nd. Might not be everyone's cup of tea. But some good info about AUA.

Word of advice if your coming in January. go to AnnualCrediReport website and make sure there is nothing negative on your credit report that would make the loan company deny your aid. Also make sure you follow up in November and apply for your Fin Aid. If not you will be going home unless you have the $ for the 1st payment. See ya all in January!

You can only apply for the COA (cost of attendence) contact fin aid for that.

I have been making it a point to tell all incoming students to please make sure you apply for your Fin Aid unless you are cash pay before you get to the island because no matter what they say they will not take care of you on the island. go to the RLPCenter.com website and apply in November if your going in Jan 09. LOL thats my PSA for the day!

Tipton,

AUA admission asked me to submit my official transcript after i graduate and then they will schedule an interview with me.

is that normal? does this mean i have an invitation for interview?

Tipton
10-23-2008, 04:26 PM
Usually the only reason to wait to schedule an interview if we have all of the docs is if there are Prerequisite courses still in-progress. If this is not the case for you, PM me you real name or some other way I can identify you and I will look at your file. I may be able to speed things up a bit. Or maybe not!

I tried applying myself and I got rejected even though my Equifax score is 730. When I applied with my parent as co-signer I was approved at 7.5% interest rate. I was told over the phone that the BLM offers interest rates between 1-9%. So I got the upper end of the spectrum although my credit score is somewhat solid.

I spoke to the NLA/BLM representative on the phone. He told me the approval process is more based upon the applicants gross monthly wage rather than credit score. If you can find a co-signer with a larger gross monthly wage, you should be approved like I did.

Thanks PantsMcPant,
I could always lie on the application, but that is a bit unethical. :) :( It is quite a difficult situation. Having a credit score of 650 or above I suppose doesn't get your qualified for a loan, even though AUA says that is what the requirements is.

Has anyone spoken to the FA office concerning the loan situation?

i applied using the financial aid email the school sent us, with BLM and i was approved. I specify i make like 1000 or so a month from my employment. They said they like to see steady employment, for those who don't work, then they would need a cosigner. I was able to take out 35K for premed 4 mod and med 1. good luck with everyone obtaining loans. take care and see ya in Jan 09.
