are far as kitchen items go, living in the dorms, do they share a kitchen, and if so, are appliances shared? Are we to bring pots, pans, blender (if its not too heavy)?

Depends. If you're living on True Blue (most likely), you will have a refrigerator, stove and microwave, but you want to bring some basic cookware since it's ridiculously expensive here. If you're at Grand Anse, you won't have a kitchen at all so don't bother.
If you're like most 1st termers, you got the "double w/ kitchenette" at True Blue. But don't go overboard, emphasize the "ette" in kitchenette - it's a tiny counter with stovetop across from your bathroom door, so you won't be cooking for the whole family here.
Remember the school won't provide you with linens or kitchen supplies, so come prepared or be ready to spend a sick amount of $$$ on plates, silverware, cups, and especially pots & pans. If you do forget some small things, there is a store in the mall (the only mall, don't worry, you won't get mixed up) called Linen & Things (not the US chain) that sells kitchen & bath stuff, although the quality of items for the price will make you very wistful for Target.

Oh yeah, and if you have a roommate, best to coordinate with them so you can share the burden of bringing such things. The kitchen is in your room, so it will be the two of you (or if you're in a suite, you will share the kitchen with your suitemates).

Check out SGU post - or if you need one right now, I happen to have one for sale. Send me a private message if you're interested.
