Can anyone tell me what score SMU considers for passing the 8hr 350 question Kaplan simulation exam?

Thanks in advance:)

My 5th semester class in Maine (Spring 07) had as a passing average 42% (as curved). This was what SMU called a minimal passing score of 70.

Just to clarify my position: I just took the Kaplan 8hr simulation exam the other day at the local Kaplan center. I scored a 45%. I need to "pass" the Kaplan exam in order to clear the Incomplete from my transcript for the "Fundamentals" class and be given the green light to sit for the Step 1.

Is my score of 45% on the simulation exam passing?? Please do not confuse the 8hr simulation exam with the 3hr diagnostic exam.

Thanks again for all your help!

45% - i.e. less than half right is passing?
Wow!
I am NOT looking forward to this material.

Good luck.

Though I suppose whacking 1 out of 2 patients would do wonders for overcrowding.

According to the Kaplan Course I am taking, this is the estimated breakdown for this test which is supposed to be normalized, the 45 to 52 percentile range correlates with USMLE estimate of 185-205. This may be the reason for setting the passing score at 45 percent. On the bright side, if you score above 73 percent, it correlates with a score greater than 250.

When I took it last semester it was as follow:

SMU passing score was 42%

Kaplan score, as per my conversation with the Kaplan Center was 65.

I would recommend to NOT take step 1 if you are not scoring in the 65's or above.

If you have doubts, call the Kaplan Center.

I scored an 80 raw on the Kaplan test and got a 98 on step 1.

i personally don't believe that for a minute. the Kaplan Qs are so much different then those presented in the USMLE Step1 that i don't believe that you can draw a direct corrolation (sp?)

As usual, doesn't take long for threads to get off topic!!!!:bored:

Anyways, looks like the majority of you are saying that SMU requires a 45% on the Kaplan 8hr simulation exam to fulfill passing the "Fundamentals" class and getting the go ahead to write the Step 1.

Thanks to all those who helped and remained on topic:)

I will follow up if what I hear from SMU is any different than what was discussed here...

42% has been what SMU has been doing. However, don't take the step if you're only getting in the 40's though. Take the 42% to pass the class, and take time to get up to the mid to upper 60's at least. Kaplan says 62-65% will be a 185-195. This is from one of the curriculum developers at Kaplan who came and talked to my class in Miami two semesters back.
