Hi, i was looking into purchasing a cell phone before I came to antigua. I was going to buy a GSM unlocked phone, that would work with cingular, but does anyone know what frequency they use there, or if its even worth buying in USA, or should i just buy in antigua?

Digicel bought Cingular all over the Caribbean. It is the best and cheapest service. You can purchase during Registration, when it will be available, right from the Company itself. They use 900mhz.

So, if I have Cingular here in the states, can I use my phone (US account) in Antigua like I can when I travel cross country?

I will bring my T Mobile with me.
They told me it would work just fine as if I was home in NJ

Question how do you guys talk to family back in the states (USA)? and also how much does it cost and which is better to have a cell phone (which company is the best one?) or a line put in where you live (how much is that?) Thank you for your help.

You'll save money buying it here.

I've been on the island for almost 2 months and I have been using Skype in/out for my entire time here, it's free to recieve calls and only 2 cents a minute to make them to the US and UK to landline phones. If the other party has Skype all your calls are free and it sounds like a real phone not the scratchy MSN or Yahoo messenger. You're not going to find a better deal for long distance calling. check out www.skype.com (http://www.skype.com) and see for yourself.
