This is for anyone who has gone thru an IM rotation...Did you find the syllabus provided by SMU to be helpful? How about the Kaplan review books? I heard "boards and wards" is good for Step 2. Are there any books that one should look over for Step 2 or the Internal Medicine Shelf...Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Things you should have for IM:

1- Clinician's Pocket Drug Reference (ISBN 0-07-146024-1)

2- Maxwell Quick Medical Reference (ISBN 0964519127)

3- Ophthalmoscope/otoscope combo (since Wyckoff doesn't offer them for use)

4- Stethoscope

5- Clipboard (see picture below)

6- Bates (you should of had this already, now you need it again)

7- Reflex hammer

8- Tunning fork

Anyone use the HY Internal Medicine book? How about the Pretest Medicine? I used these books for Step 1, am looking into using them for step 2.

Kaplan material has been great so far. I found the pretest book on IM to be very helpful. I read a particular topic from the Kaplan Step 2 book of Internal Medicine, then I hear a lecture component on the topic, and then reinforce what I learn with questions from Pretest. The bates videos are good for learning the examination techniques.
