    Bone ossification

    Advertisements

How are you able to tell if a child's growth has stopped? I had a question in which the parents were worried abt their child's growth and it asked what you would look for (I think in reference to looking at his wrist)...
Does the answer have anything to do with decreased cartilage in the endochondral growth plate?

in practice: you look at the kids growth chart and wether it follows a normal pattern over the last few vists is it still going up as scheduled or has it flattened out then you move to testing

step 1: they probably want you to know that you look at x-rays of long bones and see if the growth plate is still active or if it is ossified (closed). if there is still growth then the growth plate is clear and there is a significant space between the two bones..
