    application process

    Hey all,

So I am currently in the process of transferring to sint eustatius. I wanted to ask how long does the application process normally take? I applied to this school and UHMS at the same time. I have already had my interview with UMHS but have not yet heard back from Eustatius..

Your best bet is to call the NY office and ask them.

In terms of UMHS it's a new a school, and many students for some reason have been complaining and leaving UMHS recently (you can even check that by checking their valuemd forum). It does not have any graduates as of yet, and if you fail out there (since i heard their attrition rate is high), you are going to find it a lot harder to transfer to any other school since its only couple years old.

In terms of SESOM, it been around much longer, and has Tons of grads, and no clinical waiting time, low attrition rate.

Either or, it's you what makes a difference, just wanted to inform you tho. Good Luck.

I actually find this rather ironic...I applied to both schools and I found that USESOM was VERY quick in getting back to me (within a week of my submission) to set up an interview. On the other hand, UMHS was very unprofessional and disorganized...I had to call in for my own interview (believe it or not).

    hey parmarmania,

how is the campus at this school, does it have all the facilities you need?

also is the island livable? Electricity, drinking water, shower waters, internet, food, etc?

    Hey,
Yeah the school is decent. I think one thing you'll have to accept and always remember is that Caribbean school campuses are NOTHING like back home in Canada/USA. To be honest, they're pretty ghetto. However, despite that, personally, I think its got an adequate campus to study and learn on. The island itself is definitely do-able. Like any other island, you just need to get used to not having all the amenities that you would be able to have back home .

Everything else is fairly standard...electricity can go out sometimes (though its only happened once since I've been here - and that was for like 15min). Water and stuff is fine - honestly, people complain WAY too much. I make coffee with their water daily and I haven't gotten sick once. On the same token, I also did buy a Brita filter and brought it with me just to keep some "cleaner" water - and I recommend it.

Internet isn't as good as back home - the best connection speed is literally at school. So I suggest if you like to download movies, songs, etc --> do it before you come here.
