    Word of Caution!!!

    Advertisements

    Hello Everyone,

I would just like to inform everyone who has applied for Bethpage and is still waiting for the approval. DO NOT COME TO ISLAND TO START YOUR SCHOOL UNTIL YOU ARE APPROVED AND GOT MONEY. Few students have faced issues with coming to island and then receiving news about not being approved. However, some students are already on island and they have been told by administration that just come to school if you have applied for Bethpage. Apparently administration has told them that they will be able to continue their education in the case of not being approved. I think that is big risk taking even if its the option.
I wonder what will these students do if they stayed and completed the whole semester and school still didn't have loans. I wonder what will be the solution then? Be careful.....Evaluate your options and think twice or more if you have to.......

    Yes and no...

Since what you are saying is important, I spoke to someone in NY about this.

Yes, some students have chosen on their own to go to the island without knowing how they will pay. A few knowing that they don't have many options because of their credit, but thinking that if they get to the island then they will get to stay (for free?) because they are already there.

No, not everyone that applied to BP is still waiting. Some have been approved. With the recent changes in NY in the FA dept, the BP process is getting better. Some students are being 'approved' to go ahead to Statia if the new FA dept believes they will qualify for either BP or something else. Either way, they will still owe for the semester down the line.

The NY office is working with everyone on an individual basis. NY has told a few students to go ahead, but they were approved individually. A few others went on their own - big difference.

As I have already indicated, I was approved for BP, $50,000. The process was easy. Thanks!

Well, I wasn't trying to say that everyone is in same boat. I just met like 3-4 people who are in this situation. However, its good to know that some people have gotten the loan with no problems.
I was just letting everyone know that there are some people who have not been in good situation.

My Brother in Law received a BethPage loan for $48,000 (hey, bro). He's starting this coming week, as well. Be deligient, BethPage is cool for us. For those not approved, I'm sorry. I want to be supportive to all of my brothers and sisters at USESOM.
