    airfare

    Advertisements

i'm kicking around flying out to your (our) island to go apartment hunting before the may semester starts. from your experiences, are there any times in spring when air fares dip a little or am i pretty well hosed?
also, i would love to get some input from the vetereans about good apartments, hell holes to avoid, and so on. please feel free to PM me. i'm anxious to find out as much as i can.
finally, for what it's worth, i've been reading this site for several months now, and i didn't even bother applying to any other carib schools, because i thought you guys seemed to get along better and have a higher opinion of the overall picture of things(quality of school & quality of life on SXM) than did the posters on other schools' threads. therefore, i look forward to meeting whoever's still out there when i get there.

we don't get along... that's why we type to each other.

from back in my days... avoid blue azur. I never cared much for Cote d zure marinas as its kinda dark and creepy.

Live near the school if you can. It'll save quite a bit of trouble but it'll cost a bit unless u can get a good deal. Ask Skipper to see if his place is opening up, it's fairly cheap rent(but it's got skipper germs)..
Finally beat Super Mario Bros within 7 mins.

Try to get something before the "huge" bridge. Saves commute time when they have to let boats through. You'll find all the apartments vary in quality. However, be sure to check the little stuff-- air conditioners, water heaters, sound levels, sink space, lighting, included appliances, if there's a generator, etc. If you want something as close to the school as possible, try Solutions Management, they manage about 5 different properties within a 3-5 min. walk from the school. 1 BR apts range from $1000-1200. There's also Cupecoy Beach Club, a little farther away, but the apartments are bigger.

As for airfare, some search engine sites let you choose a broad range of dates to find the lowest possible, that's how I'd roll. Just a guess, but I would think fares dip in March.

Huh? Cupecoy Beach Club is one of the closest apartment complexes to AUC. If you don't mind paying a bit more, Cupecoy Beach Club is quite nice, one of the more secure places you can live, and offers good amenities (nice pool, exercise room, a clubhouse you can use, etc.).

Campus village is the shizzle! I moved in there when the 'original' building first opened up. Great place to live!

I wish I could move back!

See... now after living on the other side of the bridge the whole time, I can honestly say that the bridge is *NOT* a problem. Why?

It's simple... class is at 8am and the bridge goes up at 9:30a.

So, you'll never have to run into that bridge problem unless you decided to sleep in. If you decide to sleep in, may as well go for broke and skip them all.

thanks for the responses. so CBC & CV are the top 2, thus far? i take it that CV is the school-run place that kicks your butt out after year one.
