    Cost of living

    Advertisements

I'm an applicant for this upcoming school year, either May 2006 or August 2006. About how much does it cost to rent a 1/1 on the island near school or within a 15 minute walk? I read on some forum to avoid Simpson Bay as I'll probably get mugged there.

I live in Texas where I walk 15 minutes to work from the parking lot and probably 20 minutes to school from that parking lot, so I'm pretty used to walking, though not as accustomed as those NYC residents.

I'll probably buy a car, but I'd like to avoid depending on a vehicle to get to and from school.

you won't get mugged in simpson bay...just be smart. never say never...but if your out walking at 3am in the dark by yourself then your asking for trouble...

rent will be anywhere from $700 to $1200+...depends on what your looking for.

there are couple nice apartments near school. walking distance... about 50 to 100 paces (ok, i'm guessing, but it's really, really close to school, probably takes 2 min to walk to school, it's that close). u don't need a car to get to school. it's about as convenient as living in the dorms in school. i would say the rent is about 1000 to 1300 for the apartments right next to school. they're all pretty decent apartments.

Do any students ride bikes to class? Or is walking and cars the only options?

If you ride a bicycle in SXM, you take your life into your own hands...you'll understand once you see how the locals drive down there...or better yet, ask Kenneth Hur how long it took for him to recover after being sideswiped on his bike...

    Aloha,

Thanks for the response, I heard about the road conditions but wasnt really sure how it really was. Theres alot about traffic and boulders on the road.

Bike riding is for daredevils and suicidal people. Best stick with cars, the way God intended.
