Hurray, I got a 82.5 on the Physio shelf!

Hurray, I got a 82.5 on the Physio shelf after the NBME curve and before the school put a curve on it! What does this translates to in terms of USMLE stats? And how can I improve on subsequent shelves?

Sorry, I go to Saba and I took my Physio like 2 weeks ago. I am posting here b/c nobody ever answers questions in the Saba forum. Plus, I am away on my break so I do not have access to said posted sheets.

Ok, let's see, I'm gonna try a crude calculation. I know that the shelfs usually have a mean of 70 and a s.d. of 8. So...

    First I shall obtain my z-score: (82.5 - 70)/8 = 1.5625.

Next, I shall look up a z-score table, and I obtain: So it's telling me that I am in the 94% percentile???!!!

Thanks, that's what I was after.

But a percentile score is a separate beast from the USMLE correlation, no? Let me explain, if you score 70, you at at the 50 percentile, no?

usmle stopped using percentile scores. they are not good when comparing among different years, etc.....theoretically that would be the same for the nbme exams. Dont worry about what your percentile is, especially in 1 specific subject bc only your score on step 1 matters.
