By the way, what do you do when you get sick at med school

    Advertisements

    Hey,

I got kind of a different question today, but it is a good question to ask and know about. Anyway, what do you guys do when you get sick at med school and when you are doing clinicals? What I mean is I know you really can't miss much if any school, so I just thought I would ask what you guys have done when faced with the situation. I hope I am not sick during med school and stuff, but chances are that I will get sick for at least a little bit. Anyhow, advice would be nice, and examples of what happened with you guys would be appreciated.

By the way, most of the time you can just tough it out and go, but I am wondering about the very few times you aren't able to.

you'd have to have a serious major illness to be left behind if that's what you mean. if youre sick your sick. get into bed, feeel crummy, come back when youre better is all.

Have you ever been in like.... 101 F... or around there.. and you feel headache.. but you know you still have to get things done? Try force yourself to still study. I don't know why but when I get sick like that.. I guess psychologicaly I forced myself to study even harder and ignore the symptoms I have. But if you mean like sick as like.. high fever >105 F... then... you better see a doctor ASAP, get some IV and you should be fine in like __________ sorry.. not a MD yet.. so don't know how long it would be..

I've had days like that with a high temp, felt crummy and basically crawled into bed and slept it off. A healthy dose or 2 of nyquil too to make me sleep always helped. By the 2nd, and definately the 3rd day, I always felt better.

There are others of my friends who've gotten pretty sick and need serious medication. Yes, it interfered with studying but then again, you just gotta roll with the punches and hope for the best.

Just remember that basic sciences isn't the be all that ends all for your medical career. It's just one stepping stone at a time. Sometimes you slip, but what counts is getting back up and trying again until you succeed.

Bottom line, don't worry about being sick. Just do the best you can under the circumstances, and take care of yourself when your sick. Pay the $25 to see the local MD if you need ABX or whatever, but just take care of yourself.

I think I have an ear infection. Does anyone have the contact info for a doc here? Also, how much (roughly) for a cash visit? I am without insurance.

You can go to Mullet Bay Clinic and they only charge 25 dollars for the visit.
