    and the hammer comes down...

wow. Got this in the aucmed email today. Sure can't say this wasn't warned about, but wow...

    POLICY-ATTENDANCE, 12/05

For some time, with few exceptions the taking of attendance has not been effectively carried out or enforced. As a result a number of students have failed to attend classes. I am writing to tell you of the enforcement of this policy. Equally disconcerting is that apparent fact that a number of students have possibly broken the honor code by signing absent classmates as 'in class'.

Because in two classes, ethics and Path II, attendance was kept over the past semester, and students who signed in were asked at random to identify themselves, we have fairly conclusive proof that several individuals likely broke the honor code, or did not attend class. Much of this can be substantiated by review of the video tapes.

In review of this semester's data with respect to ethical standards as proscribed in the Honor Code, or Technical Standards required of medical students, I have initially determined that:

    One student will be dismissed.
One student will be suspended for at least a semester.
Nine students will be placed on suspension, may yet be placed suspended, or taken off probation following a further examination of the data.

Additional cameras will be installed in lecture hall #1, and the faculty will be taking attendance, collating their findings and submitting them to the deans.

Because we are mandated by at least one State in the

Is this a 100% attendance thing? I mean, what if you are sick or something?

Do they really have cameras? All semester long we heard about "cameras" in the anatomy lab, but there doesn't seem to be any.

80% attendence only.... and yes, all lecture halls have WORKING cameras. I won't say where they keep the TV to view the lecture halls but I can tell you it's not hard to find if your observant enough with the ongoings of the school.

oh man.....thats rough guys.....it would have been funny with my class seeing everyone get up and run out of pharm when he turned his back.....haha.....i can say that i was always there with maybe a few exceptions but i never ran out during class.....if i couldnt understand him i just sat there and did work

if you have to be there then you have to be, not much you can do about that but no one says you have to listen if youre more productive on your own

Isn't the attendance policy a prerequisite for getting loans? Also, wouldn't it suck trying to explain to people that you got booted from med school cause you didn't show up? G

I don't think so. I went through undergrad on Gov't loans and never once had to "prove" my being there 80%.

I mean, afterall, we are adults and can decide if we want to goto class or not.

What wasn't posted by Beach Bum was that the attendence is required to maintain state certification. Which state, wasn't explained....

80% attendance is required for the school to receive stafford loans.....it helps prevent diploma mills

that's very true. however, this is not elementary school. we shouldn't be "forced" to go to lecture. for some classes, i believe it is better to learn on our own instead of listening to lecture.
