SGA working for you (Gym, Lounge, Study Carrels)

    Advertisements

Just wanted to post an email sent out from the Dean regarding stuff that the SGA has been pushing for a while now. Notice at the bottom that the SGA fees have been reduced and we are having all of those wonderful things happen. A miracle isn't it?

I am pleased to announce, that largely as an effort of your previous
semsesters SGA officers, the following physical improvements have been
agreed upon by administration, and will be initiated over the next several
    months.

    1. A 5th floor (student housing) exercise room in the current 'exercise'
    space with a modicum of
exercise equipment, lockers, rubber mats and showers will be created.

    2. A student lounge, will be created out of an existing laundry facility +
    one apartment, on the
5th floor of student housing. It will include couches, TVs,
    etc. The laundry machines will
    be relocated to lower floors.

    3. Study carrels will be place in the open study area of the 5th floor and
    possibly in the
    library.

SGA fees which will be collected from all students at the time of
    registration will be $35.00.
Your SGA has prepared a budget to meet its expenses, with a slight surplus
to net, for contingencies. The Dean's office will fund tutors in the
various courses. The issue of student notes, and continuance of the
children's school is still under discussion but should be resolved shortly.

We look forward to a continued productive relationship with the SGA.

    Sincerely,
    Dean .........
I just hate stupid people. They should have to wear signs that say I'm stupid. That way, you wouldn't rely on them would you. You wouldn't ask them anything. It'd be like, "excuse me...oops, nevermind, I didn't see your sign."

Very cool. If it's in the student housing, though, will off-campus students be able to use the facilities?

IMO if SGA is going to be taking money from students, then all students who pay should be entitled to use the gym facilities whether we live on campus or not.

Too bad about the study carrels. I kinda like the open table, not squished in feeling it gives you. Plus it allows groups of people working on the same thing to be near eachother as they work silently. I can see carrels being used where the stacks are. Makes more sense in that room.

Here's the problem for anyone who is over 2nd semester, this is a load of crud. We already paid our SGA fees as a one time fee when we started. That was supposed to be the end of it, even though they eeked out an extra hundred dollars out of me before I actually read what was in the by-laws. So, to me $35 for something that I am never gonna see is ridiculous because I am currently a fourth, and I guarantee most of that stuff won't be done until I am gone. We have been promised a gym for the last 4 semesters, if it happens, great, will it happen, prolly not before April (well after I leave).

So, my point is that I signed a contract with SGA that I would pay X amount of dollars, then they changed it. We fought and won that we did not have to pay. Now they are gonna take it from us anyway. What the hell kind of a stupid system is that!!! Oh well, hope everyone else enjoys their gym after I'm gone.

    Pisst,

yes, all students would be entitled to us all of the facilities. They are just being placed on the 5th floor of the dorms because a space consultant came down and thats where he told the administration it would be the most cost efficient place to put it instead of constructing a new building. The SGA fee is now a mandatory fee and all of the students now pay it. It is deducted staright from your loan money now. So yes, all of the students will be entitled to use it.

Here is the problem with that. According to the laws of distribution of funds from the federal government... there is a rule prohibiting taking funds from students to go to anything other than tuition. So, by what you guys are doing, that is unlawful and the DOE could take away our federal funding for yet ANOTHER reason. Good job SGA!!!
