    My ACCPETED Stats

    Advertisements

    Hey

I just want to let any applicants/future applicants to know my stats. I know there are probably people with higher stats that get rejected, so this is just my information--obviously if you have the same scores or better than I do, it doesn't necessarily mean you'll get in (but it's a good sign)

    School: Purdue University
    Major: Psychology
    Grad GPA: 3.22
    Science GPA: 3.0
    MCAT: 21O
Minimal hosptial experience, rotations in metropolitan indianapolis ER for EMT training, but I have never worked as an EMT

My MCAT score blows. I know this. Actually, my verbal score was 11, making my science scores God-awful. I retook several of my science classes. It is worth stating that my GPA for my last 2 years of school was a 3.47, I was really climbing out of the hole I had dug for my first couple years. I also had semester honors for 2 of my last 4 semesters. The last 2 years are when I did all of my pre-med science. I am also married and held a job during school. That is pretty much the whole honest truth about me and my stats. I hope you have found them useful, or at least anecdotal. Feel free to PM me if you have any qustions on my experience. NOTE: I am not in med school yet. I was accpeted for Jan, so I have no info about the school itself

    thanks alot

I really appreciate you sharing your stats with us. It really helps future applicants (like me) to know where they stand. Maybe everyone that gets accepted for January could post their stats......

Oh man way too much information! Two reasons why I think its a bad idea:

First, AUC doesn't look at just these two factors, so, many others will use this information (and not in a good way) on this forum and else where. I have fought so many times on this whole site whenever people have started judging schools and who they admitted by what the GPA's and MCAT scores are (this will happen, I am not saying you meant this but come on think about it). There are going to be highs and lows ok... so just deal with it. If you do any research on this site at all you know that the general unwritten rule is around 3.0 GPA and around 20 MCAT and everything above. They also look at what experiences you have under your belt, and that can be just as important as the scores. Its a combination, so deal with it. If your worried that your classmates are not good enough for you... you need to go to Ross (this topic comes up all the time over there, you can bunk with preppystud) .

Second, this information does not lead to good qualities in a leader... Don't be the guy that always worries and second quesses himself (or herself). If you have to have constant reassurance that you are good enough, you won't be. Know your good, and if someone says no screw them, they don't know what they are missing. If you don't have this attitude you will fail, and not just at being a doctor... you will fail at life.

Now since there are only a few replies and 92 views, I think everyone generally agrees that its not a good idea to post your scores on this site. And before anyone calls my attention to the sticky on this page, read what I orginally asked for the docs to post: "their stories" not their scores! They added the word "Stats" when they made it a sticky. I didn't need to hear their scores because I am not that needy, and I don't want to know my classmates scores. I want to make friends and contribute to the team spirit that is evident at AUC by this website and the people I have talked to at the school. Stuff like this just creates more lurkers then contributors.

    ...

If this is the sentiment felt by the majority, I apologize. I was certainly not looking for approval from anyone, and I tried to state in the message that the scores don't mean that my scores are the min or max or cutoff or anything of that sort. I know when I was still a hopeful applicant I was nervous about where I had a chance. When most people applying to Indiana University SOM had 3.5s and 33 MCATs, I wanted to see where my stats fit in. I want to agree with Flash to say that AUC, as with most carib schools, considers the total application and you as a person/future physician. I sincerely hope that my first post is not being used to start any fights between schools (a ridiculous waste of time), and that nobody is deterred from AUC because of it. As always, feel free to PM me for any additional information!

    grades

i thought is was pretty bold of you to put your stats out there. if i was browsing around looking at carribean schools, i would be interested in knowing what people scores were that were able to enter school i was interested in. i even came back to check the thread so i could see other people's gpa/mcat scores. i understand that schools always look at the whole person but i would like to know what other peoples stats. i personally am not competitive but i know many people are and for those people, Flash's comments are very valid. now preepystud is becoming more and more like nasir by the day (notorious troll now banned). on many sites people put their stats up and ask if they will get in. and generally we respond with kind encouragment if their scores are okay and suggestions if their gpa is really low 2.0. for me it was nice to see what other people's grades are. there is this crazy competition between ross auc and st. george's and i personally would like to know if there really is a big discrepancy btw their advertised admission requirements and what they really let in their school.

    mcat (didn't take it)
    gpa 3.25
    Ross U jan 04

    good luck to all

    my 4 cents

    I disagree

I don't think it's necessary to post every score, and harping about them all the time is certainly not a good thing, but I would have found it very helpful when I was in the applications process to see some of the scores of recently accepted students to help me get a feel for the school's standards. I probably wouldn't have worried nearly as much as I did! lol

Note: I am not posting my scores for the world to see, because I am not the typical matriculant. My numbers and qualifications would probably do more to discourage the borderline student than to encourage them. I am not trying to hide anything, if you really want to know you can PM me (why anyone would care, I dunno, lol). But I know SEVERAL people in this school now with what I would have considered pathetic GPAs and/or MCATs, but are managing to make it though classes. They may not be coasting, but with hard work, they're making it, and that's what it's really all about, isn't it?

    Good luck!
