Should I choose AUC or AUA

    Advertisements

I have looked at most of the other schools and I realize most people immediately suggest SGU but I am just interested between AUA and AUC. I've looked at other threads and most information I gathered seems to be old, back when AUA wasn't Cali approved. So just wondering what you guys would suggest. I am leaning towards AUA but AUC is also on my mind. Please help. Thank you.

I am a bit biased because I go to Ross...but I would definitely recommend going to Ross over AUA or AUC...Ross has many more graduates and better track record. But if it comes down to choosing between AUA or AUC, I would go AUC all the way. I've visited the campus/island and have friends who have attended and graduated from AUC and they are very happy with their decision.

I choose AUC over AUA and ROSS for:
The island that has almost everything we need and we’re only one flight away from US/Canada. Many flights available daily.
The school is still at a human dimension where class sizes vary from 120 to 250, way less than AUA and some other schools.
The attrition rate seems better at AUC.

No clinical headache when come the time to rotate. No big waiting because there is not enough clinical spots.

Find what is more important to you and chose your school according to that. The attrition rate was what makes me choose AUC.

I agree with Untel's points regarding cheaper flights and smaller class sizes if that's of importance to you. plus, it is freaking saint marten lol...love that island.

Appreciate the comments. Is there a facebook group for AUC?

Also I read that in AUA from 350-400 students that get into the program, only 25-40 write the step 1 and do well... Whats that rate with AUC? I realize AUC has smaller classes as well so that should help right?

Once we finish the 5th semester, we have 1 semester to take the step and submit a passing score before going to clinicals. You may request an extension for another semester under some circumstances. The vast majority of students take the step in the required period. If we do not submit the passing score in time, we face dismissal.

I don't know why anyone in their right mind would CHOOSE AUA over AUC (or Ross, St. George's, or Saba for that matter). Even without the loan issue, there are so many red flags with that school. Pervasive cheating (the school lost NBME priveleges), very high attrition, those that do make it through basic sciences can't pass the comp... Just head over to the ValueMD page and you can read it all for yourself.

To answer some of your questions... from 1st-5th semester you can probably expect about a 20% attrition rate from your original class. That doesn't mean everyone failed out, probably half the people from my class that are no longer here left for personal reasons that didn't have to do with academic performance. Most people leave after 1st semester and then progressively fewer each semester after that. Very few people (if any) are dismissed after 4th or 5th semester. I have NEVER heard of a case of someone making it to 5th semester and not being able to get through comp (or now comps) and moving on to clinicals. It's probably happened, but there's no excuse for it, AUC does everything it can to make sure that doesn't happen. The average step 1 score for AUC students is about a 220.

AUC does have smaller classes, which was one of the main reasons I chose it over Ross. Fall is the biggest around 250, while the January and May classes usually will have about half that many students.

Choose AUC or St. Georges over AUA. save your self the time, money and headache by going to a legitimate school like AUC, Ross or SGU.
