    AUC Sept 2014 Class

    Advertisements

Hi guys, welcome to this thread. I'd like everyone applying/attending AUC in Sept 2014 to post their stats, share their opinions on the school and why they chose it and ask any questions.

From my part, i am a US applicant, early twenties, cGPA 3.45, MCAT 27, 2 physician shadowing internships, 1.5 yrs of chemistry research, strong LORs, and 900+ hrs of community service. After doing a lot of research and going over the facts and numbers, I believe AUC offers you a good and trust-worthy opportunity to become a physician, but remember it all comes down to YOU; it doesn't matter where you are (US med school or caribbean) if you don't put up a good effort you wont make it. So i don't listen to all the crap they put up about caribbean med schools, if you are determined enough, work hard (destroy the USMLE Step 1, 245+) and have faith, you WILL get the residency you want. I'm out, so keep posting.

Nooooooo don't come to Caribbeans if your stat is good enough for DO school.

    1) It's not crap if it's true.
    2) Dude...... Easier said then done.

Yep, going to a DO school or reapplying seems logical, but i cant afford (literally) to wait 1.5 years, reapply or retake the MCAT. Finally, the USMLE Step 1 can seem intimidating but good preparation and hard work should cash you in a good score (i wish i would have done that for the MCAT).

    1) You can't afford to finish medical school, but can't match due to shortage of residency in the future. Not going to hash on this, since a simple google search will show you what I mean.
    2) I had the same problem with the whole, broke (no cash), unemployed, living off of GF so I rushed into something. Still broke and artificially having roof and food due to student loans.

1.5 years to retake MCAT and get into a DO with an almost guarantee chance of matching. That's so much better into rushing into something where even if you get a good score on Step 1, they will still take a US graduate with an average Step 1 score for residency.

Shoottt I was same situation as you. uGPA 3.7 and MCAT 24. I would of taken that job at Target and focus on MCAT if I can go back in time.

That's just my advice for you. Ultimately your choice is your own.

Dude, "they will still take a US graduate with an average Step 1 score for residency" really got me thinking. Thanks and that's an awesome discussion topic, can you provide more details.

I don't know how AUC does their clinical orientations. But SGU had a talk last week for all the people about to take Step 1 in 4-5 months and going onto clinical. They provided their own data and talk about how the situation is getting tougher.

You can also read this forum too:
    http://www.valuemd.com/residency-mat...ns-thread.html

There are some discussion there about how much harder it is getting.

    *Edit
Here is also a good paper to read:

I posted wrong NRMP paper earlier.
