    Matching To Anesthesiology

    Advertisements

    Hello all,

I am currently a third year student at AUC and am interested in going to anesthesiology. I was wondering if someone could provide me with information on how to successfully match into anesthesiology. I understand that anesthesiology is rather competitive field so my application needs to be strong. I have a step 1 score of 243 is that score high enough for an IMG to successfully match into anesthesiology.

The higher the better. The field is very competitive. 243 is very good, try to do same or better on step 2. Always helps to have good LORs from anesthesiology physicians. Look for list of residents on their websites if available. If you don't see any IMGs in last 2-3 years, chances are you won't be able to get in.

You should be ok if you apply broadly. Anesthesia has become pretty easy to match into.

Whether its a smart field to go into......

This reliable information comes from someone who says that offshore schools shouldn't be funded by US government. Goldsgymdoc, you can PM me with questions, don't listen to morons who are not in the field; apply for the specialty you like.

Um, I stand by what I say about Title 4 loans going to offshore schools.

I replied with a fact, and that fact is directly responsive to the OPs question. A bunch of my classmates matched gas without problems and none were particularly strong applicants.

My statement at the bottom is my opinion - like it or not. calling me a "moron" seems a little childish. I report what i see: CRNA winning in a landslide. Maybe, just maybe, the US applicant is cognizant of this trend....

You'll be fine. I matched into a very good program with 230 and 250 coming from AUC. Anesthesia is a great field. Don't let downers sway you from what you like doing. Always go for what you love and you will enjoy your work. CRNAs are mid levels ad they're in almost every area of medicine. They are not MDs and there's no data that says they provide just as adequate anesthesia as MDs. Anesthesia is fun, provides a great lifestyle and is near the top of pay in the MD world. Not sure what the big scare is for. I'm very happy with my match. And it's not very easy to get into. I had six ivs with my scores and I applied to 115 programs and I'm a US citizen. It's pretty competitive but 243 is great! Shoot for even higher on ck. It's doable. Good luck!!
