This has been brought up many times before, but I am curious to find out from a more recent source. What books would you recommend picking up for first semester?

Also, I have a copy of Clinical Netters. Would this work for Anatomy lab, or do I need netter's atlas of human anatomy instead?

you need the atlas, buy used or you might be able to pick one up from an upper semester on the island, if you get a new one it's going to reek of formaldehyde and will probably have some human tissue on it by the end of the semester. You will want BRS anatomy as well, both are vital.

    and welcome, fellow Michigander!

I suggest getting the netters atlas because it is the only book allowed in the labs, I would also suggest the embryo book, the genetics, and BRS anatomy. Netters atlas can be hard to find once on the island and mail takes ~ one month. So you should bring one and if you find one on the island use it as a "wetters" (your wet copy for your lab dissections)
