    AUC MERP August 2013

    Advertisements

I received a phone call today offering conditional acceptance to AUC if I pass MERP in August. I have done some research online, but I would love to hear any and all information from anyone who has completed MERP. I am waiting on the info packet that is being mailed out, however I'm already looking into flights, housing and books.

I have seen various posts saying people applied to personal loans before they paid the deposit. Is this recommended or should I wait on the MERP list of lenders? Is it difficult to secure a loan?

Any info would be greatly appreciated

hey, i recently applied for the january 2014 class, I was wondering whether you applied for that class as well and they gave you the acceptance for that provided you pass the MERP in August or you if you applied for August 2013 and they gave you the August MERP. Also if you dont mind what your general stats were for those of us waiting...Thanks!

The best thing to do would be to borrow money from a private source (like a family member or friend) to put down the deposit for the program, housing, flights, and books, then pay it back when you get your loan reimbursement the first day of orientation.

It's not difficult to secure a loan at all as long as your have okay credit, the major lenders are Sallie Mae and Wellsfargo and both have their upsides and downsides. It depends on your situation.

Personally, I decided to go through a loan through a family member since the interest rate was significantly lower, plus there was leeway JUST IN CASE I didn't pass the MERP program, then payments wouldn't be demanded 6 months from completion of the program (for Sallie Mae) or 2-3 years later (from Wellsfargo).

My advice would be to look around for lenders in your network of family and friends, then look at WF and SallieMae and find a cosigner for a lower interest rate if yours isn't good enough.

I'm doing the MERP in August as well, guys. I applied for the Sept. class with a low MCAT, got MERP'd, and now I'm doing it since it means attending AUC. Which I believe to be the best Medical School in the Caribbean.

So, thank you naviris for posting b/c i found your info quite helpful. I think I'll ask family for a loan before I ask Sallie Mae or Wellsfargo.

How do they expect us to pay back loans in 6mos or 2-3years when they KNOW we'll be in medical school? That doesn't seem practical much less logical.
