Transferring into 3rd year clinical rotations!

    Advertisements

    Hello Everyone!

Im applying to Auc for clinical soon. I was told I may have to do one semester on the island if Im accepted. However, I would like to know what is the clinical process at AUC? Can students choose there own clinical rotations? Are clinical rotations based off of grade point average or your Usmle step 1 scores? Does administration choose your clinical rotations for you? Also, if anyone can give me good advice on applying to Auc and please tell me what things they are looking for in a good candidate as well. Thanks!

    Superdoc1,
I'm curious as to how that works out for you, because I'm considering transferring into AUC for clinicals as well. When is your planned start date? I'm shooting for Jan 2013.

From what I have heard you are chosen based on your home location. So if you are a New Yorker, they will try to set you up with NY rotations.

    Chairster,

I'm planning to apply for May 2013. As far as clinical placement, I was told by one of the school representitatives I may have too do one semester on the island first before entering clinical regardless of taken USMLE Step 1. Did you hear the same thing? I was never told that clinical placement is chosen by your home state. I was told you can choose your own, according to space availability. Actually, that would be so nice if we can choose based off our home state.

Rotations are first come first served. Once you are approved to begin, AUC sends a survey of the top 3 locations you would wish to be and then they try to place you there. ALL Cores must be done in AUC hospitals. You may do your electives at any hospital with a residency program, provided they accept you and AUC agrees. (search "greenbook" for idea of places). Scheduling electives is the hard part, unless you want to be in NY, due to the lack of teaching hospitals that accept non-LCME students.
