AUC JAN 2013 or St George MPH Jan 13

    Advertisements

I was accepted to AUC for jan 13 and I have an interview in a couple weeks for SGU and they will either accept me directly into the St George program or the MHP program. I know St George has more clinical sites in New York which I prefer but I am not sure which would be the better decision. Any feedback would be appreciative. If I get a direct admission into St George would you recommend that over AUC? and if I get the MHP program would that still be a better choice over AUC? Thank youuu.

    AUC worth it

Auc or St-Georges? Hard to tell! Thereís a lot of advantages on both sides. St-Georges is more expensive but they seems to have a lot for the money (installations, rotations sites etc.)

AUC is cheaper not much cheaper but it still cheaper; the installations of AUC do not seem to match St-George. AUC has nice installations however. The rotations seem to be easier to plan at St-georges. The support here at AUC is great.

You could almost choose by flipping a dime because the bottom line is that you want a residency spot and both school can take you there. Yeah yeah AUCís USMLEís passing rate is 98%. SGUís is around 95%. Here again thatís similar.

Both schools are a good choice in my view. It goes back to what you like.

The size of our clas at AUC is 210 for September and less for January and May. The size of the class at SGU is above 350. Will that work for you. Only you know that.

The quality of life in Grenada how is it when compared to St-Marteen? knowing that can help you decide.

Do you think the education you will receive at SGU worth the extra you are paying for going there? If you do, then go to SGU. If not AUC is better.

Before I started here at AUC, I would have pick SGU straightforward. Now that I am here and when I compare AUC to SGU, I really think AUC worth it.

Thank you for the response! Will AUC rotation spots let me stay at one location? I would rather do my last two years at one hospital rather than moving around

There are currently AUC-affiliated hospitals in New York, Michigan, California, in the UK that let students rotate in one location. However, the availability of the spots are on a first-come-first-serve basis, and you choose your rotations with your clinical advisor once you have passed the USMLE Step 1 after Fifth Semester on St. Maarten.

While it is convenient to do all of your rotations in one spot, I'd suggest it's to your advantage to experience rotations at several different spots, to get a broad experience, and to make impressions and connections at several different hospitals (and not to mention, get letters of recommendations from different hospitals). Remember, every hospital you rotate at is potentially a place you can apply for residency.

    Best of luck!

Tell SGU u were admitted into AUC med 1.They wont want to loose you to them. SGU best choice u could make. Great clinical rotations and you will graduate on time. well worth difference in tuition.

I pretty much had a similar situation and im picking AUC for sure! Based on everything I have read and from what practicing physicians have told me, my choice is just fine! Lots of them have heard of sgu and Ross more often than auc but they all say that auc has developed and changed a lot. Education wise hey are all good so it comes down to situation after clinical and living on the respective islands. AUC seems to be best for me! Best wishes to you!
