ERAS - USMLE Transcript release and photograph

    Advertisements

Can someone please clarify this process please? It's a bit confusing because we work on ECFMG.ORG as well as AAMC's ERAS website when preparing for the application process.

    1) USMLE transcript request - I requested in on ERAS and it says that I did so but still says fee not paid. When I go to ECFMG OASIS, it says no USMLE transcripts were sent nor requested. Can someone clarify how to do this?

    2) When you select a program on ERAS, it asks to check "send transcript" box, "send photograph" box etc. Where do these come from? Is the photograph i uploaded to ECFMG OASIS going through to ERAS and to the programs or is there another step? Thanks in advance!

    1) the transcript release fee is a one-time fee that occurs when you physically pay for your application, which will be sept 15th at the earliest. if you apply to more programs later on, it's fine and doesn't require you to pay again. It doesn't show up on ecfmg at all.

    2) yes, both are through ecfmg. There no middle step. If you go to the ADTS section it will show when your transcript and photo were uploaded to eras. checking those boxes release them to programs.

Dumb question, but what kind of photos are you guys submitting? It has to be a digital photo, and I know passport photos/photos you take at drug stores are impossible to upload onto a computer, so what to do? Take a picture with a digital camera?

I just took a picture with a digital camera and cleaned it up and set it to the ECFMG requirements with my computer. ECFMG says it will take 1-2 weeks for it to be sent from them to ERAS though ....
    ----
ECFMG Requirements for Submitting a Digital Photograph

If you wish to submit a photograph you must do so via this page; photographs mailed to ERAS Support Services at ECFMG for scanning will not be accepted. Your photograph must:

Show a clear, front view of your full face only. Your face should be in the middle of the photograph, and your expression should be natural with your eyes open and looking directly ahead.
Be in color with a light-colored background.
    Be wallet-sized or passport-sized (no larger than 3 inches by 3 inches [9 cm x 9 cm]).

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you are a "Repeat Applicant" and submitted a photograph for the ERAS 2012 application year, ECFMG will use that photograph for ERAS 2013. Once you have registered at MyERAS, please allow one to two business days for the photograph to be attached to your ERAS application.

Before you attempt to submit a digital photograph, make sure that it conforms to the following technical specifications:

It must be in the Joint Photographic Experts Group (JPEG) format.
It must have a resolution of 300 pixels wide by 300 pixels high OR 240 pixels wide by 320 pixels high, and a color depth of 24-bit color.
The source of the digital photograph should be either a digital camera or a print photograph scanned into a digital format.
The maximum image size accepted will be 100,000 bytes (100 Kb)

I doesn't take one to two weeks, I think they say that in case it does take that long. I uploaded mine and it was available on my ADTS three days later. Don't worry too much, it will make it there on time.
