    Help Needed

    Advertisements

    Hi Everybody,

I'm new to this site. I am a 24 year old Canadian University graduate who is *dying* to get into AUC.

Does anybody have any tips they can give me? Anything would be appreciated. I'm just in the process of filling out my application.

    Please help!

    be more specific

    Please be more specific:

Are you having a problem with filling out a particular part of the application, writing your essay, etc.?

Do you want tips on what to bring to the island, what it's like living there, how much it costs, what the USMLE step 1 pass rate is at AUC, the pros and cons of attending AUC?

Users here can help you better if you ask one specific question at a time. You can also click on "search" above and search for whatever you have questions about. If you haven't already, read every post you can on this AUC board. Lots of good info is sometimes hidden in here.
    Good luck to you!

    Thanks!

    Hi,

I am looking for tips to get accepted. Overall, I think I have a very decent application, but that wasn't enough in Canada.

Do you guys recommend having many letters of recommendation?
Do you recommend applying for the January semester or August?
    Any tips on the essay?

How can I increase my chances of getting in. I'm not looking for a magic solution, but rather tips that you guys may have to offer me (since you've already been through this process).

For instance, how did you present yourself and how do you think you got in? (I don't want to discuss MCAT or GPA's).

    App

Even though it was only last year- the application process seems so distant and foreign now. However, here's my five cents. (promise me not to dwell too much on my opinion)

Keep it short. Don't flood the application, no more letters than necessary. No more words than necessary. Profs who review the applications also have many other things to do.
Keep it sweet. Goals or accomplishments are great, sob stories are not, unless they have a real inspirational ending, that comes quickly.
Be yourself. While an application should be free of erorrs, don't be afraid to let your personality in. (would you want to teach a form letter writing machine? or a friendly person?)

The two hardest parts of the application are
A: getting all the parts of the application done (letters, FAFSA, MEIO)
B: deciding if you are really ready to dive into med school. I was apprehensive- but I love it now that I'm here. (but don't tell anyone...) Tons of hard work and hurdles await. Gotta love the pain.
