Police Report/Letter of Good Standing Issues

    Advertisements

Hey everyone, I'm hoping someone can answer my question fairly quickly, because I'm hoping to get all of my paperwork done very soon. I've been trying to get my letter of good standing for over 2 weeks now with no luck. Local sheriff said they don't do it, go to the state police. I went to the state police (where I was treated like a petty criminal) and asked for the letter and they acted like I was on crack and asking for proof that God exists. When I asked them who I would get it from they asked me what township I was from and I told them. The secretary then retorted that they were the people who would do it....but that they don't do it.

So, I've contacted my state rep who is happy to help me, but doesn't know exactly what is needed (what it is). I gave them the contact for MEAS but MEAS never returned their call. I then contacted MEAS myself, asking them to speak directly to the state rep about it, but they won't do it and didn't give me information on what is actually needed. So, can anyone tell me approximately what it should say and what it should contain? I'd really appreciate it.

    Thanks.

P.S. I'm from PA, apparently one of the few states that doesn't do stuff like this.
P.P.S. Should I ask for it to be mailed directly to MEAS?

Yes, you want it to be mailed to MEAS, but you also want a copy for yourself. It is just something that says you don't have a criminal history to the best of their knowledge. It isn't as in depth as a criminal background check. It is necessary for the immigration paperwork that is needed to get your temporary resident papers on the island.

I went to my local police station, they printed the letter right on the spot and I paid like a $5 fee.

weird the letter they sent me, I had to sign my name and from what I read, MEAS/AUC would do it or would do it there was any suspicion that I was a criminal....hmmm maybe I didn't read it carefully.

Well there's the background check you have to agree to and the letter of good standing you have to get from the local police station.

dammit! Signed the background check, but didnt know they needed a letter of good standing.... ugh this entire process is getting annoying. You think they would look at my app and make a decision if I tell them I got an interview with ross and SGU [which is true] and then fill out all the forms after I get accepted?

Well I had a couple hiccups in my application process, I was first accepted but still needed some missing paper work sent in. They will send you a letter telling you what is missing from your application. Getting the letter of good standing does not take long (normally), just do it and send it in. Follow up with them to make sure they include it in your folder when they receive it.

I only needed a letter of good standing after I got accepted. The signed document for a background check was fine for the application.

yeah, i am pretty sure the letter of good standing is only required once you have been accepted. Good luck.
