    Pass/Fail System

    Advertisements

What competitive edge is there for getting good grades in a pass/fail system, other than being more prepared for Step 1? Also, what cumulative GPA is normally required to be on the Dean's list?

"To qualify for the Dean’s List, students must carry a credit load of at least 15 credits and have earned a semester cumulative average grade of at least 87."

There really isn't a pass fail system. Everyone gets graded and they see those grades on their transcript. Also, you need 87 for dean's list and I believe 85 to make honor society. The only way AUC is pass/fail is the fact that there is a P or F (or H for honors) next to the number grades.

It also affects your class rank. But more importantly you should have your own drive to do well and learn all the things that will help make you a competent future physician. So if you don't have that drive to do well and want to learn for 4 years and the rest of your life in general your choosing the wrong profession.

I think the numerical grades are only visible to students and the school, and are not part of the "official transcript". You do get an H/P/F and a class rank that won't be finalized until students finish taking the 4th comp. So, for the students who just left in April, the class ranks won't be final until the end of this semester because the total number of students in the class may be affected by those who have to take a 4th comp. Also, clinicals have no impact on class rank.

It's basically A/B-C/F. The numerical grades are basically in-house stuff. H/P/F is good since there is NO competition, people don't try to do better than others, etc.
