    Important: State Approvals

    Advertisements

A common concern for people who plan on attending international medical school is in what states are they permitted to practice medicine and/or do rotations.

    My research is as follows:
To be able to obtain a license and practice medicine, several states require specific approval for international medical graduates. These states are California and states that use California's approval list such as Kansas, NorthDakota, and Indiana. Also, Texas requires special approval.

    The results are as follows:

California (and states that use its list Kansas, NorthDakota, and Indiana)-Licensure
SGU approved Welcome to the Medical Board of California - Medical Schools Recognized by the Medical Board of California
Ross approved Welcome to the Medical Board of California - Medical Schools Recognized by the Medical Board of California
AUC approved Welcome to the Medical Board of California - Medical Schools Recognized by the Medical Board of California
Saba approved Welcome to the Medical Board of California - Medical Schools Recognized by the Medical Board of California
MUA not evaluated Medical University of the Americas - Accreditations
AUA evaluated but waiting on results [/URL] Fast Facts | American University of Antigua
SMU evaluated and disapproved Welcome to the Medical Board of California - International Medical Schools Disapproved by the State of California

    Texas
SGU not on disapproved list THECB - Institutions Whose Degrees are Illegal to Use in Texas
Ross not on disapproved list THECB - Institutions Whose Degrees are Illegal to Use in Texas
AUC not on disapproved list THECB - Institutions Whose Degrees are Illegal to Use in Texas
Saba not on disapproved list THECB - Institutions Whose Degrees are Illegal to Use in Texas

AUA not on disapproved list THECB - Institutions Whose Degrees are Illegal to Use in Texas
SMU disapproved THECB - Institutions Whose Degrees are Illegal to Use in Texas

    Clinical Training (Rotations)
Four states require special approval to allow student from international medical school to do rotations. These states are New York, New Jersey, California, and Florida. (Note: The state in which you do your rotations is irrelevant once the rotations are ACGME accredited.)

    The results are as follows:
