    Solutions Management

    Advertisements

So I HAVE to write this as a warning to all the incoming students who are looking at renting a place from a solutions owned building!

I just left the island April 13th. I am in NYC now waiting to start clinicals. Two days ago I received my deposit from my apartment! It took solutions 6 weeks to wire me the money they owed me. No response to e-mails sent, so here I was back in the US calling them on skype every few days to see what the deal was!

My whole year and a half on the island I paid my rent on time and everyone was very nice in the office, however, once that checkout starts you better watch out! They turn into heartless money nazis that don't mind ripping you a new one. Let me explain. I spent the 3 days prior to my checkout cleaning the entire apt. I swept, mopped, washed every wall in the apt and even used a "magic eraser" to get off little grease splats from cooking on the stove. All my dishes, glasses, pots, pans, and silverware were intact except for one broken fork. Of course I needed new little silver things to go on the stove top (which you can buy at ACE for a lot cheaper than solutions will charge you to replace them), and I expected the $50 cleaning fee (which you cant get out of). However, they charged me for a whole new set of knives, forks, and spoons (because the one fork was missing), and all new pots and pans that had been cooked in (as the bottoms were black). They also charged me $325 to paint walls that I had spent the last 3 days making sure were spotless, and I needed a new mattress as the one I had been using for a year and a half, much to my surprise had a huge stain on the underside of it! I was shocked because I didnt think to lift the mattress when I was doing my apt walk through right before I started school! So that was another $180. Not to mention re-covering the couch, love, and bar stool that were covered in BURLAP. I kid you not. If you dont want them re-covered by the time you leave, you cant sit in them! I never had a pet in the apt and used the couch for sitting, yet here I am paying $200 bucks to have the things recovered in burlap.

All in all Solutions took me for over half my deposit. $1600 down to $740 (after they charged me a $54 wire fee). I really couldn't believe the way the people that worked in the office acted after we had spent a year and a half getting to know each other. I guess they really are all about making money and ripping students off.

If you can manage, RENT FROM A PRIVATE OWNER! All my friends that did had far better experiences. If you go through solutions, my advice is this:

When you move in, pack all their dishes and cups and silverware into a box and store it in your closet until you move out! DONT USE ANYTHING STOCKED IN THE APT! Look under your mattress, and demand that they paint the walls before you move in. Go to a 5th semester sale and pick up any silverware and dishes you want to use as well as towels, blankets, and whatever else you may need! Or go to cost-u-less and get it. In the long haul it will save you a ton!

I hope this helps any newbies moving to the island!

I really wish more students knew about this and would pass on the word. It makes me sick that there is no way to fight these people and that they can just take advantage of all the students like they do and keep their money. Most apartments have an insane amount of flaws upon anyone's moving in. On check out, all imperfections are because of the student that lived there last according to them. Every little stain and scratch on the wall must've been you. Millions of things go unnoticed during check in and that's always going to be taken out of the student's deposit. There are tons of empty apartments this semester that are managed by solutions. They are losing millions of dollars (literally) every year because some people got the message. I really wish that more people would look for private owners and stop dealing with the trash that solutions is. They need to go out of business and maybe get better owners who treat students a little better and give them their money back! Do all you can to avoid them and find private owners!!!!

You broke a fork, my friend... how dare you?
But if we hope for what we do not yet have, then we wait for it patiently.

Unfortunately, this type of problem is hardly unique to Solutions. I avoided local businesses as often as possible.

During my five semesters on the island, I stayed at Summit. I would highly recommend them to anyone. The people are extremely friendly and are willing to go out of their way to help you with whatever you may need (seems like the antithesis of Solutions). In the end, they not only prorated my rent (since I was leaving half way through the month), but also gave me my entire security deposit back, along with a good luck hug

This thread needs to become a sticky. People need to be aware that solutions is not to be dealt with. Unfortunately, probably less than half of AUC students even know of valueMD. I ask that everyone make an effort to spread the word of both valueMD and it's useful classifieds section and information section as well as the fact that solutions is evil.

I completely agree. I stayed here for 4 of my 5 semesters and had no problems whatsoever. My rent was prorated as well and received all of my deposit and was able to leave it dirty because of the housekeeping that was included in my rent agreement. They only asked that I clean the microwave.
