    Expensive!

    Advertisements

After being denied from 10 MD/DO schools and 1 post bacc I feel that my original choice of looking at carib schools is now valid. AUC has been the school that I felt was best for me since the beginning, but now after looking at the rent that you guys are paying I'm beginning to wonder how anyone pays for all of this. I already have 14,000 out in loans from my undergrad and I would have to be living solely off of loans toward my medical degree. Is that even possible to afford? And how are most of you guys doing it?

Everyone does it on loans. Your loans more than cover all the costs of attending, including living expenses.

Is it all with Direct Loans or do you need Private Loans as well?

It all varies from student to student, but I'm guessing most (like myself) pay for the full cost of attendance (COA = tuition, housing, food, travel cost, equipment, etc.) via federal DIRECT loans. These loans come through the US Department of Education. There are two different types of loans: Grad PLUS and Subsidized/Unsubsidized (technically, three types).

    Hope this helps.

If you start in the Fall semester, when could you expect to receive your loan?

You'll get it after you get to the island on the day you register. So, yes, you will have to have some money to get down to the island and get settled in before you can register and get your loan check.

Try to live like a doctor as a medical student, and you will probably have to live like a medical student for a while as a doctor.
