    Interview Skills

    Advertisements

I've got nearly a year and a half before I start the whole residency application and interview process, but I know that my interviewing skills are poor. For whatever reason, my personality is such that people tend to get the wrong impression about the kind of person I am in such short time periods. I'm shy, modest, and not talkative which often gets interpreted as lazy, incompetent, and disinterested which is not true. I had one boss who told me a few weeks after I started a job that based on the interview he wasn't sure I'd be a good fit, but was surprised to find that I turned out to be one of the best employees he had.

I'm thinking of enrolling in some kind of program or crash-course in interviewing and presenting yourself in the time between taking the Step and starting clinicals. Has anyone done this kind of thing before? Any advice or programs to recommend? I've tried searching on the Internet, but that's been mostly useless so far.

Talk to the ICM doctors, the ones who work with residents, and see what they say. I think that is part of why they are here as well, not just clinical skills.
