Anyone know about shipping stuff home?

    Advertisements

I remember when I was a first semester, I was buying stuff from a 5th semester, and she had a large black barrel in her dorm, she said there is a company which will ship it home, for one flat rate. Anyone know the name of this company? or any other methods to ship stuff home? Thanks.

I don't know about that barrel company, but as far as sending boxes and things, it looked like it would be a huge, expensive hassle. 4 star told me that they would need an itemized list of what was in each box and how much it is worth and then they would give me a price. It turned out to be easier to just take extra suitcases at $100 each than to try to ship things.

How many extra suitcases were your allowed and on which airline? Was there a weight limit for the extra suitcases?

I am not sure how the limits are assessed for extra bags, but I had 5 checked bags (2 free + 3 extra), one carry-on and one personal item.

Note: I did not fly through San Juan. I think that there may be stricter limits on those flights due to the smaller plane size.

I believe the service you are referring to is run by a Mr. Donkey-Kong. He allows you to place your belongings in a barrel of your choosing. Once you have finished tightly seal the barrel and he will launch your barrel to Miami with a ferocious overhand throw. I believe his price was a bunch of banana's or a princess. Whichever you have he will take. I hope this helps, here is a video of some of his delivering services.

Go to the 4-Star Cargo facility just west of the airport terminals (just off the main road between the airport parking lot and the food store in Maho. There you can inquire about Amerijet, which will forward items to Miami, and then contract with another shipping courier within the continental US to get your stuff anywhere in the US. I did it when I left the island, with 5 very large boxes of stuff for just under $500. It's worth inquiring about, at the very least.
