    AUC Residency Success Rate

    Advertisements

Question: I know there's been a lot of talk about how graduating as a FMG means less opportunities with residencies, so we supposedly gotta think twice about it.

But quite frankly, I'm really just going for Internal Medicine and eventually do a Fellowship in Medical Oncology. Should I really be worried about trying to get a IM residency coming from AUC in the future? I plan to apply to AUC in 2012 for the 2013 entering class.

"Just" going for internal medicine may be harder than you think. I know people with scores in the mid 80s that failed to match IM last year. It will only get harder by the time you apply. Hem/Onc is one of the most competitve fellowships in IM and all things being equal (research, publications, chief year, etc.), the better your program is, the better your chances of landing such a competitive fellowship. Take a look at our match list, and decide for yourself. A good percentage of our IM/FP residencies are at community programs. It's certainly not impossible to get a fellowship from these places, but it it is much more difficult when you consider that many of those top applicants from US schools went to top IM programs with the sole intention of pursuing a fellowship. There are only so many fellowship spots available per year... going to AUC may influence your career path for the next 7-10 years. Just make sure you've exhausted all of your domestic medical school options before you decide to start at AUC.
