    Student Death

    Advertisements

Prayers go out to the family of this second semester student:

    Dear students, faculty and staff,

I regret to inform you that a second semester student was found dead this morning in his apartment in Cupecoy. His cause of death is unknown at this time. St. Maarten forensic examiners stated there were no signs of foul play. According to several physicians, it appears to have been a case of an underlying medical condition.

It has come to our attention that various unsubstantiated rumors are circulating regarding this tragic incident. I encourage you all to be supportive of each other in the time ahead. Additional information will be provided as it becomes available.

    With condolences,

    C S

I think it would be appropriate for the diversity council to postpone the talent show out of respect.

If I were the parents, I would think it was a sick joke when I get that phone call. I can't even imagine... truly sad indeed.

As far as the talent show, an alternative could be to dedicate the performances to the memory of the student.

Instead of worrying so much about the "school's reputation" there needs to be more humanity involved.

RIP, you are missed more so that you would ever know.
The school is in currently in contact with the student's family and respecting their requests not to reveal his name and information regarding cause of death at the moment. I've had a friend who passed away at another school and due to his certain circumstances, his parents also requested the same thing.

Besides that though, the school at least has reached out and provided information on where to find support on campus, as well as requested a moment of silence to be held during the Diversity Council Talent Show. The school and SGA is also planning on a ceremony next week in memory of the student as well as a memory board that people can write messages on to send to the family, once the student's family has given permission for the school to release his name, after which they will notify the student body on updated information.

It is a sad day for AUC to lose someone we see everyday. May he rest in peace. Please keep his family in your thoughts.
