    Cost effective Harvey??

    Advertisements

So, what the heck is a Harvey? Is this the new computerized dummy patient? After looking at the schedule, it appears that Harvey and any given student will have 5 encounters over the course of our studies here. Any idea how much that cost? Cost effective . . . hmmmm

Harvey is a crowded lab with no air conditioning and a rubber computerized dummy with no legs that plays heart sounds when the instructor (a fellow student) punches a code into the computer.

You will do the same exact Harvey lecture (2 hours long) in ICM 2, ICM 3, and ICM 4.

No. It is essentially another tutoring opportunity.

Harvey does almost nothing that a Littmann CD (or quick google search) couldn't do better. He has a pulse, a PMI, and he broadcasts heart sounds out to proprietary stethoscopes. Seriously...that's it....that's what they paid apparently a lot of money for. He's creepy looking too....unusually large head.

I agree with Slevit. Harvey is essentially a souped-up "baby think it over" (look it up).

I do think Harvey was a good addition to the curriculum back before the ICM department tacked on so many extra requirements. It IS a good learning tool - just very time intensive for many students wishing they could spend their afternoons studying.

I liked it for what it was the first 2 times we had to go... it was a great reinforce for Cardio Phys, and Cardio ICM... but in ICM 4 it was a waste of time

I'm in for SimMan next semester :fingerscrossed:

Maybe we can get a 'Dr. Toilet' too...

I, like Lemacfar, found my first harvey session extremely helpful. It really was a great review of the cardiovascular physiology that we were learning. I've only had one so far, but I'm very much looking forward to the next one in ICM 3 next semester =)
